DC’s Chat

Summer Time is here the larks are singing and the weather is sunny (well most of the time) and the camping season is very much upon us.

I have been very impressed so far with the amount of camping that the district has undertaken with most of the groups and sections getting away for weekends and sleepovers.

It is what our young people wish to do so thank you.

If you are off this summer on camp or away on your own holidays have a great, enjoyable and safe time.

When we get back in September it will be time to encourage our young people to get involved in Gang Show at any level, please speak to RJ is you have any questions. Let us all get behind him in his first show as producer.

Please also watch out for details of an Explorer event planned for September which is looking to increase the profile and information that is available to our Scouts aged 13 plus. No pressure, Daljit.

Finally have a great and enjoyable summer.

County Development Survey

As you may remember, County forwarded to everyone involved within scouting, a questionnaire with the last county mailing for you to have the chance to put forward your views on scouting within GLMW.

As part of this review put in place by Chad Lake, the County Commissioner, every District would be given the chance to voice its opinions to one of a number of people on the panel set up to obtain this information.

It should be known that the people on this panel don’t undertake their scouting within GLMW.

Greenford & District will have the opportunity to put its opinions to John Jordan, in July.

An open forum has been set up for the following date at DHQ for you to attend and voice your concerns, opinions and ideas.

The date will be Monday 11 July, 7 for 7.30.

Please attend as it will be your chance to have a say in the development of GLMW.

I look forward to seeing you at DHQ on the 11 July.

Andrew Norman
District Commissioner

Greenford Gang Show 2006

I am pleased to announce rehearsals will commence for the Senior Gang on Tuesday 27th September and for the Junior Gang on Sunday 2nd October.  Letters will shortly be sent out to last year's cast inviting them to join us again and everyone within the District is encouraged to become a member of what I hope will be another happy Show.  The more people on stage, the merrier.

My Production Team and I have prepared the programme for next year, and several appointments have been made.  However, my team is not yet complete, and I welcome all offers of help.

Show dates at Greenford Hall are Thursday 16th to Saturday 18th February.

Producer, Greenford Gang Show 2006

Nights Away

Hopefully many Colonies, Packs, Troops and Units will be heading off for their various Nights Away adventures during the summer holidays.

Please don’t forget that ANY activity that involves a night away, even in your own Group HQ, requires an appropriate person to hold a Nights Away Permit.

Also, at least a week prior to your activity a Nights Away Notification form must be submitted to the District Commissioner, Andrew Norman. Andrew will accept these via his pigeon hole at DHQ, by post to his hone address or by emailing him at

If you are camping on a ‘green field’ site then you must notify the host DC at least two weeks prior to the event. Failure to comply with these basic requirements could lead to the Nights Away Permit being suspended or revoked.

Have a safe, fun and enjoyable Nights Away experience.
